Wards Mod for Minecraft

Wards Mod gives you a practical use for all those enchanted books cluttering your chests. Place an enchanted book on a ward block to create a zone of protection and damage. It’s a simple concept that adds some real utility to the game.

What the Ward Block Does

How Enchantments Work

A ward can use up to two enchantments from a single enchanted book. It always picks the strongest two, regardless of rarity. So Efficiency IV and Protection III will beat out Mending every time. Got a book with three copies of the same enchantment? The ward just picks the top two and ignores the rest.

Right-click the ward while holding an enchanted book to place it. Right-click again to get the book back.

Power and Fuel

Wards need lapis lazuli to run. Each lapis powers an active ward for one Minecraft day, and the ward can hold up to 5 lapis (5 days of power). A ward activates the second you put an enchanted book on it. If there’s no book, it only burns power at 10% of normal rate. Firing at targets costs 0.5 seconds of power per shot. When the lapis runs out, the ward shuts down.

Range

How far a ward reaches depends on its primary enchantment. The formula is 5 + (2 × enchantment level), capped at 15 blocks. A ward with Looting II reaches 9 blocks in every direction, for example.

Interference and Placement

Place a ward within 15 blocks of another ward and both stop working. Overlapping zones will pulse redstone particles toward whichever ward is interfering with it. Inactive wards don’t cause interference, so you can stack them if you power them down first.

Controlling Wards

Redstone works on wards too. A redstone signal with power level 1 or higher disables the ward’s damage function. Power level 13+ disables the whole thing. Right-click with a stick to toggle display mode, which turns off all functions. If you’re an OP, right-click with a command block to toggle admin mode, which restricts book swapping to OPed players and stops passive power drain.
