The Little Things Mod 1.8.9 – Stairs, Slabs & More

The Little Things Mod 1.8.9 adds stairs, slabs, walls, and vertical slabs for dozens of Minecraft blocks. Download and install with Forge.

The Little Things Mod 1.8.9 fills gaps in Minecraft’s block variety. Ever noticed that some blocks don’t have stairs or slabs? This mod fixes that. Add stairs, slabs, walls, and more to blocks that deserve them, from building blocks to ore blocks. The goal is to expand your building options while keeping everything feel like vanilla Minecraft.

What Does The Little Things Mod Add?

This mod is all about giving Minecraft’s blocks the variants they should have. Need stairs for nether brick? Done. Want slabs for glass or packed ice? You got it. Here’s what you’re actually getting:

New Block Variants

The mod adds four main block types across dozens of materials:

  • Stairs – Stone, granite, diorite, andesite, dirt, grass, gravel, sand, ore blocks, colored wool, stained clay, prismarine, packed ice, and netherrack
  • Slabs – Same materials as stairs, plus glass and all colored glass variants
  • Walls – For stone, brick, planks, ore blocks, wool, stained clay, and other materials
  • Vertical Slabs – A new block type that connects like stairs. Works with stone, wood, glass, and ore blocks
  • Chiseled & Pillar Blocks – Decorative variants for granite, diorite, andesite, ore blocks, and more

Building With The Little Things

Want to build an ice castle with packed ice? Now you can make stairs, slabs, and walls out of it. Need nether brick variants for a fortress? You’ve got options now. Vertical slabs let you create details that curve around corners or stand as decorative pillars depending on how you place them.

Crafting these new blocks works like you’d expect. Stairs and slabs use the standard recipes. Vertical slabs craft the same way as regular slabs but orient vertically. The nether brick fence recipe was updated to match the wall recipe so all walls craft consistently.

New Crafting Recipes

Beyond the new blocks, The Little Things adds useful crafting shortcuts:

  • Four ice blocks combine into one packed ice
  • Gravel drops flint when furnace-smelted
  • Dirt plus seeds makes a grass block
  • String crafts into cobweb
  • Horse armor recipes for iron, gold, and diamond variants
  • Name tags from paper, leather, and string
  • Clay conversions (packable ice, podzol, nether quartz from flint)

Mob Heads & Player Drops

When a player dies, they drop a head. This can be toggled in the config if you want to disable it. Once you have a player head, you can craft mob heads from it. Combine a player head with zombie flesh for a zombie head, or gunpowder for a creeper head. Want a skeleton skull? Furnace-cook the player head. A wither skeleton skull needs the skeleton skull, blaze powder, coal blocks, and a potion of harming.

Food & Seasonings

The mod adds a double chocolate chip cookie you can craft by combining a normal cookie with coco beans. Mushrooms can be roasted in a furnace to create roasted mushrooms. You can also craft spicy seasoning to add to meat, fish, baked potatoes, and roasted mushrooms. Spicy food gives less hunger recovery but more saturation, which is useful for long mining trips.

Configuration Options

Most features can be toggled on or off via the config file. You can disable specific block variants, turn off player head drops, disable the spicy seasoning system, and more. The config file gives you full control over which additions you actually want in your world.
