What is the Taiga Biome?
The Taiga is a cold, forested biome in the Overworld. You’ll see tons of spruce trees, snow on the ground, and podzol soil. It looks like a northern forest and has that frozen feel to it. One of the biggest perks is that wolves spawn naturally here, making it one of the only places where you can find and tame a dog.
Weather in the Taiga
Expect regular snowfall and rainfall. Snow accumulates when it rains, so if you build here, you’ll want to keep your roofs clear. It stays cold year-round, which is good to know if you’re planning a base.
Trees and Vegetation
Spruce trees dominate the landscape. You’ll also find:
- Dandelions and poppies
- Sweet berries (good for food)
- Ferns and large ferns
- Brown mushrooms
Blocks You’ll Find
The surface blocks are grass blocks, dirt, and mossy cobblestone. Dig deeper and you’ll hit coal ore, iron ore, gold ore, diamond ore, redstone ore, and copper ore like everywhere else in the Overworld.
Mobs and Animals
Daytime Mobs
You’ll find the standard peaceful mobs here:
- Chickens
- Cows
- Sheep
- Rabbits
- Wolves (this is the main spot to find them)
Nighttime Mobs
Expect the usual hostile mobs at night:
- Creepers
- Endermen
- Skeletons
- Spiders
- Witches
- Zombies
Taiga Villages
Taiga villages are rare but worth finding. They’re built mostly from wood and feature gardens with potatoes, carrots, and wheat. Villagers live inside and you can trade with them for valuable items. The crops are also useful if you need food fast.
