Do I need to start a new world for this mod to work?

Yes. Stratospherical Expansion changes world generation, so it only affects newly generated chunks. Load it into an existing world and the old chunks stay as-is. Start a fresh world to get the full sky island terrain.

What's the difference between the overworld version and the dimensional version?

The overworld version replaces standard terrain generation entirely, so your overworld becomes sky islands. The dimensional version adds a separate sky island dimension instead, leaving your normal overworld untouched. You enter the sky dimension by flying to Y420.

How do I get back from the stratospheric dimension?

Fall into the void. That sends you back to the overworld.

Why is TerraBlender required?

TerraBlender handles biome registration for mods that modify world generation. Stratospherical Expansion uses it to add its custom biomes. The mod won't load without it.

Will this conflict with other world generation mods?

Possibly. Since it rewrites overworld generation (or adds a new dimension), other mods that also touch overworld terrain may cause issues. Check the mod's forum thread or CurseForge comments for known conflicts before combining it with other world gen mods.

Stratospherical Expansion Mod (1.20.1, 1.18.2) Sky Islands

Stratospherical Expansion replaces your entire overworld with floating sky islands. Every vanilla biome gets rebuilt from scratch to fit the new generation style. If you want sky island survival without building a custom world by hand, this mod does the work for you.

Sky Island Overworld

The default version completely rewrites overworld terrain. Load a new world and there’s no ground-level terrain at all. Just floating islands, reimagined biomes, and a completely different feel to exploring and building. It’s actually worth it if sky island survival is your thing.

Stratospheric Dimension

There’s also a dimensional version if you want to keep your regular overworld intact. Instead of overwriting overworld generation, the sky islands get their own separate dimension. Fly up to Y420 in the overworld to enter it. The generation is simpler than the overworld variant, but it works cleanly alongside a normal playthrough. To return to the overworld, fall into the void.
