Splash Potion of Slowness Guide | 1Minecraft

Learn how to brew a Splash Potion of Slowness in Minecraft. Step-by-step guide with materials, crafting instructions, and give commands.

The Splash Potion of Slowness is a throwable potion that slows down mobs and players. If you throw it at an enemy, they’ll move 15% slower for about 1.5 minutes. This makes it great for defense or controlling fights. Here’s how to make one.

What You Need

To brew a Splash Potion of Slowness, gather these two items:

  • 1 Potion of Slowness (1:30)
  • 1 Gunpowder

Gunpowder drops from Creepers when they die. If you need the base Potion of Slowness first, you’ll need to brew that at a brewing stand using a Nightshade potion and Fermented Spider Eye.

How to Brew It

Step 1: Open Your Brewing Stand

Place down a brewing stand and right-click it to open the menu. You’ll see three bottles at the bottom and a fuel slot on the left.

Step 2: Add Blaze Powder

Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot. One Blaze Powder powers one brewing cycle. If you’re making multiple potions, add more powder.

Step 3: Add the Base Potion

Place your Potion of Slowness (1:30) into one of the three bottom bottle slots. You can fill all three slots if you have more potions.

Step 4: Add the Gunpowder

Put the gunpowder in the top ingredient slot. The brewing starts automatically.

Step 5: Wait for the Brew

Wait a few seconds. You’ll hear a “glug glug glug” sound when it’s done. The Splash Potion of Slowness is ready to grab.

Give Command

Want to grab it with a command instead? Here’s how for different Minecraft versions:

Java Edition 1.13 and newer:

/give @p splash_potion{Potion:"minecraft:slowness"} 1

Java Edition 1.9 to 1.12:

/give @p splash_potion 1 0 {Potion:"minecraft:slowness"}

Java Edition 1.8:

/give @p potion 1 16426

How to Use It

Throw the potion at a mob or player to apply the Slowness effect. They’ll move slower for a while. The effect lasts 1 minute and 30 seconds in Java Edition, and 1 minute and 7 seconds in Bedrock and other versions.

Use it to escape from tough mobs, slow down enemies in PvP, or control mob groups. Works on any mob that can be hit by potions.

Works With

  • All Java Edition versions 1.8 to 1.20
  • All Bedrock Edition versions
  • Console Editions
  • All difficulty settings

The recipe is the same across all platforms. Only the effect duration changes between Java and Bedrock.
