Rose Bush in Minecraft

Rose bushes are decorative flowers you can find throughout your Minecraft world. They’re a great way to add color to gardens, builds, or landscaping projects. You can’t craft them, but they’re easy to find in survival mode and grab.

Finding Rose Bushes in Survival Mode

You’ll find rose bushes growing naturally in certain biomes. Look around plains, forests, and flower forest biomes. When you spot one, just break it with your hand or any tool. It’ll drop as an item and you can pick it up.

To break a rose bush:

  • Java Edition: Left click and hold
  • Bedrock (PE, Xbox, PS, Switch): Tap and hold the flower
  • Old Console (Xbox 360, PS3): Hold RT or R2

The flower will drop instantly. Make sure you grab it before it disappears.

Rose Bush in Creative Mode

If you want a rose bush right away in creative, you can find it in your inventory:

  • Java 1.8 to 1.19: Look in the Decoration Blocks tab
  • Java 1.19.3+: Check Natural Blocks
  • Bedrock: You’ll find it in the flowers section

Just click and drag it into your hotbar or build area.

Item IDs and Commands

If you need to use commands to get a rose bush, here’s what you need:

Java Edition

For modern versions (1.13 and up):

/give @p rose_bush 1

For older versions (1.8 through 1.12):

/give @p double_plant 1 4

The rose bush item ID in modern Java is just rose_bush. In older versions it was part of the double_plant block with data value 4.

Bedrock Edition

Use this command:

/give @s rose_bush

You can also adjust the amount by changing the number at the end if you need a stack.

What You Can Do With Rose Bushes

Rose bushes aren’t just for looking pretty. You can use them for a few things:

  • Craft them into red dye (put one in a crafting table)
  • Plant them in flower pots for decoration
  • Use them to breed bees (bees are attracted to flowers)
  • Throw them in a composter for a chance at bone meal
  • Use them as building blocks for gardens and landscaping

The main use is dye and decoration. They stack up to 64, so you can collect a bunch for big building projects.

Version Compatibility

Rose bushes are in pretty much every recent version of Minecraft:

  • Java Edition: 1.8 and up
  • Bedrock Edition: Available in current versions
  • Console Edition: Available in newer updates
  • Windows 10/11 Edition: All current versions

If you’re on an older version, you might not have them. Check your game version if you can’t find them.

Tips for Collecting Rose Bushes

Rose bushes grow naturally in flower forests and plains. If you need a lot of them, find a flower forest biome, those usually have tons of flowers including rose bushes. Bring a few tools since breaking flowers doesn’t take durability but you might want to destroy other blocks nearby.

You can also use bone meal on grass to generate flowers, though there’s no guarantee you’ll get rose bushes specifically. It’s usually easier to just find them in the world.
