What is Pointed Dripstone?
Pointed dripstone is a block that grows in Dripstone Caves. It comes as either stalactites hanging from the ceiling or stalagmites growing from the floor. You can’t craft it, but you can find it and break it off to collect it. It was added in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I.
Where to Find Pointed Dripstone in Creative Mode
Java Edition (PC/Mac)
In Creative mode, pointed dripstone shows up in different menu locations depending on your version:
- Minecraft 1.17 – 1.19: Decoration Blocks tab
- Minecraft 1.19.3+: Natural Blocks tab
How to Get Pointed Dripstone in Survival Mode
Step 1: Find a Dripstone Cave
Pointed dripstone only grows in the Dripstone Caves biome. Head underground and look for caves filled with pointy spikes. Stalactites hang down from the ceiling, and stalagmites stick up from the ground. Both are made of pointed dripstone and grow on dripstone blocks.
Step 2: Mine the Dripstone
You can break pointed dripstone with your bare hand. No pickaxe needed. Just hold down the attack button until it breaks.

- PS4: Hold R2
- Nintendo Switch: Hold ZR
- Windows 10: Left click and hold
Warning: Don’t stand under a tall stalactite when you break it. Falling pointed dripstone deals damage, and the bigger the fall, the more it hurts.
Pro tip: Use a Trident with the Loyalty enchantment to break stalactites from a distance. It’ll come right back to you.
Step 3: Collect It
When you break pointed dripstone, it drops as an item. Grab it before it disappears. It’ll stack in your inventory up to 64.
