Does Pluto work on both the client and server?

Yes. Pluto runs on both sides. You can install it on your client for better network handling, on a server to cut CPU usage and tick times, or both at once.

What's the difference between Pluto and Krypton?

Krypton is a Fabric mod. Pluto is an unofficial Forge port of Krypton that extends the optimizations and brings in additional work from the Velocity and Paper projects.

Do I need both Forge and Fabric installed?

No. Pluto is a Forge mod. Install Forge for your Minecraft version and drop Pluto in the mods folder. You do not need Fabric.

Will I actually notice a difference?

On a single-player world with no other players it's subtle. The real gains show up on servers with multiple players, or if you're on a connection that's struggling with packet handling. Server admins tend to notice it more than solo players.

Is Pluto safe to add to an existing modpack?

Generally yes. It's a low-level network optimization and doesn't touch gameplay systems, so conflicts are uncommon. If something breaks after adding it, remove Pluto first to check if it's the cause.

Pluto is a networking optimization mod and an unofficial Forge port of the Fabric mod Krypton. It targets Minecraft’s network stack directly, improving performance on both the client side and the server side. The optimizations come from real production work done in the Velocity proxy and Paper server projects, so this isn’t theoretical stuff, it’s been stress-tested at scale.

What Pluto Actually Does

Optimized Netty Handlers

The network handlers are pulled from Velocity, where they’ve been profiled under real server load. Native code is used where it makes a measurable difference. You’re not just getting a re-skinned default setup.

Flush Consolidation

Pluto groups network flushes together instead of firing them off one at a time. This lowers server CPU usage, tightens tick times, and reduces exposure to speculative execution vulnerabilities like Spectre. Especially useful on busy servers.

Packet and Memory Micro-Optimizations

Packet serialization is faster and memory usage is lower. Each individual gain is small, but they stack up noticeably when the server is handling a lot of players or a client is on a weaker connection.
