Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 5 is a focused patch that fixes player reporting exploits and overhauls how chat preview works. There’s a new visual system for chat signing status and a long-requested option to control when previews actually fire while you type.
Chat Signing Status
You can now see whether your chat message is signed before you send it. A small colored indicator shows up to the left of the chat input field, or next to the chat preview if you have that enabled.
- Green = message is signed and good to go
- Orange = Chat Preview is on and a preview is waiting to be signed
The chat preview background also fades slightly when a preview is unsigned, so the current state is always visible at a glance.
Chat Preview Changes
The old “ON” setting has been renamed to “On Modified” and a brand new “On Send” option has been added.
On Send
The preview only updates when you actually try to send the message. You’ll need to hit Enter twice to confirm. Good if you don’t want previews refreshing on every keystroke.
On Modified
This is the previous behavior, but with a fix. It no longer shows a preview if the server hasn’t actually changed the message. Less noise when the server isn’t doing anything with your input.
Chat Preview is now active in singleplayer as well, and will show up when you use commands with selector substitution like /say. Hover events and click events inside previewed messages now have a solid background so they stand out properly.
