Minecraft 1.13 Snapshot 18w08b brings fish to the ocean. Cod, Salmon, and Pufferfish now swim around, and you can catch them with water buckets. The oceans got a major overhaul too, with new biome variants, deeper caves, and ravines that cut through the seafloor.
What’s New in This Snapshot
Ocean Biomes Redesigned
Oceans are now split into 5 temperature variants: frozen, cold, normal, lukewarm, and warm. Each one (except warm) has a deep version that drops way down. World gen stays the same overall, but old chunks will only have the basic normal oceans.
Underwater Caves & Ravines
Caves under the ocean floor are now 50% more humid. Ravines show up in every ocean type. Some of them go really deep and break through to lava chambers below.
Swimming Fish
Three fish types spawn in this snapshot:
- Cod – spawn in cold, normal, and lukewarm oceans. They like to swim in groups.
- Salmon – spawn in frozen and cold oceans, plus rivers. Also social swimmers.
- Pufferfish – spawn in lukewarm and warm oceans.
You can catch any of them with a water bucket. Fish need water to survive, obviously.
