What does the red indicator mean?

Red means a mob can spawn on that block any time, including during the day. You need to get more light on that spot before it's safe.

How do I turn the overlay on and off?

Press F9 by default. If that conflicts with another mod or your own keybinds, you can change it in Minecraft's controls settings.

Does this mod account for all mob spawning conditions?

No. It only checks light levels. Block type, biome-specific rules, and structure-based spawn restrictions are not factored in. It's a light level tool, not a full spawn simulator.

Does Light Level Mod work with Forge?

No, this mod is Fabric only. You need both Fabric Modloader and Fabric API installed before it will work.

Will the overlay hurt my FPS?

The performance hit is minimal. The overlay only does its scan while it's active, so just press F9 to turn it off when you're done checking and you won't notice any impact.

Light Level Mod 1.20.4, 1.19.2 - Color-Coded Mob Spawn Overlay

Light Level Mod puts a toggleable overlay on your screen that shows the light level of every solid block nearby. Press F9 and you can instantly see where mobs can spawn. No more guessing, no more waking up to a creeper that somehow got into your base.

It runs on Fabric and supports Minecraft versions from 1.15.2 up to 1.20.4.

How It Works

Hit F9 to toggle the overlay. It scans solid blocks within a 16-block radius and shows color-coded indicators based on their light level:

White: Safe. No mob can spawn here.
Yellow: A mob can spawn here at night.
Red: A mob can spawn here any time, day or night.

The numbers are actual block light values, so you know exactly how much light each spot is getting. One thing to keep in mind: this only checks light levels. It does not account for every mob spawning condition like biome rules or block type restrictions. Use it for what it is, a fast light checker, and it works great.

How to Install

Download and install Fabric Modloader for your Minecraft version.
