Dripstone blocks are the solid foundation of the Dripstone Caves biome. You’ll find them throughout caverns covered in stalactites and stalagmites, and they’re pretty easy to get once you know what you’re doing. This guide covers how to craft them, where to find them naturally, and what you need to gather them.
What is a Dripstone Block?
Dripstone blocks were added in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I. They’re decorative blocks that form the base structure in dripstone caves. You’ll see pointed dripstones (the icicle-looking formations) growing on top of them. You can either craft them using pointed dripstones or mine them straight from caves.

Finding Dripstone Blocks in the Wild
Where to Look
Dripstone blocks only spawn naturally in the Dripstone Caves biome. You need to explore deep caves to find them. Look for cave systems that have the blue-gray colored stone blocks with pointed formations hanging from the ceiling and standing from the floor.
What to Bring
You need a pickaxe to mine them. A stone pickaxe is the minimum, but iron, diamond, or netherite will work better and faster. Wooden and golden pickaxes won’t work.
How to Mine Them
- Java Edition: Left click and hold on the block
- Pocket Edition: Tap and hold
- Xbox One: Hold RT
- PlayStation 4: Hold R2
- Nintendo Switch: Hold ZR
- Windows 10/11 Edition: Left click and hold
Keep holding until the block breaks and drops. Pick it up before it disappears.

Uses for Dripstone Blocks
Dripstone blocks are mainly decorative and work great for building cave-themed structures. They pair well with pointed dripstones to create stalactite and stalagmite formations. They’re also useful if you want to recreate the dripstone cave biome in creative builds.
