Curios API is the library mod that makes extra equipment slots work in Minecraft. Rings, amulets, belts, back slots — when a mod adds wearable items that don’t fit vanilla armor slots, it almost always uses Curios to do it. If a mod you want says “requires Curios API,” this is what you grab.
On its own, Curios adds no gameplay content. No items, no blocks. What it provides is a new inventory GUI (press G by default) and the slot framework that other mods plug into. With over 25 million downloads on Modrinth, it’s the standard that mod developers reach for when they need accessory slots.
Features
Slots Created On Demand
No slots exist until a mod creates them. If nothing you’ve installed needs a belt slot, you won’t see one. Your inventory stays clean and you don’t end up with a row of empty slots that have nothing to go in them.
Shared Slot Registry
Slots are registered by identifier. If two mods both register a “ring” slot, they share it instead of each creating their own. You end up with one ring slot that works for both mods rather than two identical slots sitting side by side.
Customizable Slots
Slot backgrounds, sizes, and default visibility are all configurable. Slots can be disabled or hidden by default. Mod developers can toggle a player’s slots on or off through the API, or change how many slots of a given type exist at runtime.
Vanilla Tag System Integration
Items get assigned to curio types through Minecraft’s built-in tag system. Adding an item to a curio type is just a .json file in data/curios/tags. Items can belong to multiple curio types at once, and a datapack can override these settings entirely if needed.
Mending and Curses Work Normally
Mending repairs items sitting in your curio slots as you gain XP. Curse of Binding and Curse of Vanishing both apply to curio items the same way they do on armor. No special setup needed.
Single GUI for All Slots
Every curio slot from every installed mod shows up in one inventory screen. Press G to open it. Mod developers can still build their own custom GUIs if they want, but the default Curios GUI handles most situations without any extra configuration.
Recent Fix
The October 2024 patch (version 5.1.6.4) fixed command slot arguments not working on dedicated servers. If you’re running a multiplayer server with mods that use Curios slot commands, grab this version or newer.
