Crimson roots are a decorative plant block you can find in the Nether. Unlike most blocks, you can’t craft them. You have to go out and find them in the wild.
Where to Find Crimson Roots
Crimson roots grow naturally in the Nether, specifically in Crimson Forests. You’ll see them hanging down from the ceiling or growing on the ground. They look like reddish plant tendrils.
To find a Crimson Forest, explore the Nether. These biomes are pretty easy to spot once you know what they look like. The whole area has a crimson/reddish color scheme.
How to Collect Crimson Roots
Breaking the Roots
Crimson roots break instantly with any tool or by hand. Just hit them and they’ll break immediately. You don’t need to wait for a block to break like you do with other blocks.
Here’s how to break them on different platforms:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac): Left click and hold
- Pocket Edition: Tap and hold
- Xbox One: Press and hold RT
- PlayStation 4: Press and hold R2
- Nintendo Switch: Press and hold ZR
- Windows 10/11 Edition: Left click and hold
Picking Up the Drops
When you break crimson roots, they drop as an item. Pick them up before they despawn. They’ll go straight into your inventory.
Using Crimson Roots
Crimson roots are mostly decorative. Here’s what you can do with them:
- Plant in pots: Put them in flower pots to decorate your base
- Compost: Throw them in a composter for a small chance at bonemeal
- Building: Use them as decorative blocks for crimson forest themed builds
