Does colored water spread and mix with regular water?

Colored water flows like normal water, but you should keep it separated from regular water if you want to maintain a specific color. Mixing colored and regular water can dilute or overwrite the color depending on block placement.

Do I need anything other than Forge to run this mod?

No extra dependencies required. Just Forge and the mod file for your version. Installing Just Enough Items is optional but highly recommended so you can browse crafting recipes in-game.

Does colored water work in multiplayer?

Yes, it works on multiplayer servers as long as the mod is installed server-side. All players on the server will see the colored water correctly.

Can the light variants actually replace torches for underwater lighting?

They emit light, so yes, they work for ambient underwater lighting. They won't prevent mob spawning on their own the way a full light level 15 source would, so keep that in mind for survival builds.

Is there a Fabric version of this mod?

The download links on this page are all Forge versions. Check the mod's original project page to see if a Fabric port exists, as that can change over time independently of the Forge releases.

Colored Water Mod (1.20.1, 1.19.4) - Dye Water Any Color

Colored Water Mod does exactly what it says: it lets you place water in any dye color you want. Red moats, purple pools, glowing blue fountains. Vanilla water is fine for survival, but for building it’s always been a dead end. This mod fixes that with a small, focused feature set that actually holds up in creative and decorative builds.

What This Mod Adds

Colored Water

Standard water blocks in 16 dye colors. They flow and behave like normal water, just with whatever color you pick. Works for pools, channels, rivers, or any water feature where the default blue isn’t cutting it.

Condensed Colored Water

A denser, more saturated variant. The color reads stronger and doesn’t look washed out even in bright lighting. Good when you want the water to actually be the focal point of a build.

Light Variants

Both colored water and condensed colored water have glowing versions that emit light. Useful for underwater rooms, mood lighting, or anywhere you want a glow without dropping a sea lantern or torch that kills the look.

Cauldrons

Cauldrons are part of how you work with colored water. It fits the vanilla crafting logic without feeling forced, and gives you a dedicated block for mixing and producing the colored variants.

Crafting Recipes

Install Just Enough Items (Forge) or Roughly Enough Items (Fabric) to browse all the recipes in-game without guessing.

Download and install Minecraft Forge for your Minecraft version.
