What is a Brush?
The brush is a tool added in Minecraft 1.20. It lets you carefully remove blocks without destroying them, perfect for finding hidden details in suspicious sand and suspicious gravel. You’ll also use it to clear away dust and cobwebs from ancient structures.
How to Craft a Brush
Materials You Need
To craft a brush, gather these three items:
- 1 Copper Ingot
- 1 Stick
- 1 Feather
Crafting Recipe
Open your crafting table and place the items in this exact pattern:
- Top row, center slot: Feather
- Middle row, center slot: Copper Ingot
- Bottom row, center slot: Stick
The brush will appear in the output slot. Move it to your inventory and you’re done.
Creative Mode
In Creative Mode, find the brush in the Tools section of your inventory.

Tips for Using Brushes
Hold right-click on suspicious blocks to slowly uncover hidden items and structures. The brush degrades with each use but lasts quite a while before needing replacement. Keep spare brushes in your hotbar when exploring ancient ruins or desert temples.
