BC-IC2 Crossover Mod 1.4.6
This mod bridges BuildCraft and IndustrialCraft2. If you run both mods, BC-IC2 Crossover adds 4 electric engines, an oil materializer, a generator, and heat sinks to tie them together.
The electric engines convert IC2 power into BuildCraft mechanical power. The generator does the opposite, burn oil or fuel to make EU. The oil materializer turns UU-matter into actual oil. Heat sinks let you cool engines with air instead of just water.
Electric Engines
All electric engines will overheat if they run too hot. They work best when blue. Overheat penalties hurt performance but won’t destroy your setup, though they’ll still explode if you feed them too much voltage.
Small Electric Engine cools like a steam engine. Makes 1MJ/t and takes up to LV power.
Medium Electric Engine needs coolant, like burning oil in a combustion engine. Makes 3MJ/t and handles up to MV.
Large Electric Engine also needs coolant. Handles MV and makes 8MJ/t.
Industrial Electric Engine is the heavy hitter. Needs constant cooling from a dedicated pump via gold pipe or heat sinks. Takes HV power and cranks out 25MJ/t.
Petrochemical Generator
Burns any fuel the combustion engine can use, or converts power from BuildCraft conductive pipes. Redstone turns it off. Produces 16 EU/t from oil or pipe power, 32 EU/t from fuel. That’s 64,000 EU total per bucket of oil or 256,000 per bucket of fuel. You can tweak these ratios in the config file.
The conversion is based on how much energy each fuel type produces, so different fuels will be more or less efficient depending on that.
Oil Materializer
Takes UU-matter and makes oil. You need a wooden waterproof pipe and a redstone engine to extract the oil. Gets about 1 bucket of oil per 14.4 UU-matter. This ratio is editable in the config.
Heat Sinks
Heat sinks move heat from engines to cooler sinks and to the air. The bigger the temperature difference, the faster the heat transfers. This means hotter sinks cool faster, but they send heat to engines slower. Lower tier engines are harder to keep cool since they have lower max temperatures.
Each heat sink has a max heat capacity and thermal conductivity (how much heat it can move per tick to neighbors).
Bronze Heat Sink has 15 MJ thermal conductivity. At max heat it cools about 1.42 MJ per tick. Lowest max temperature of all sinks. Made from 4 bronze compressed into dense plates.
Copper Heat Sink jumps to 222 MJ thermal conductivity and cools about 7.3 MJ per tick at max. Best for large heat sink arrays thanks to the high conductivity.
Refrigerated Heat Sink is the top tier. Runs cold at minus 60 degrees C with EU power. Takes up to MV. Cools 1 MJ per 2 EU. Can run without power but loses air cooling efficiency. With 222 MJ thermal conductivity and 128 EU/t input, it hits around 152 MJ cooling per tick at max heat. Highest max temp and highest cooling rate, perfect for big setups.
Installation
- Back up your world.
- Install Forge for your Minecraft version.
- Install BuildCraft and IndustrialCraft2.
- Test both mods work alone.
- Back up your world again.
- Drop the mod zip into your mods folder.
- Load the game.
On first launch, the mod makes a config file in /config/. If you hit ID conflicts, edit that file manually. Default block IDs are 2210-2213. Default item ID is 31000.
For multiplayer, make sure your block IDs match the server or things will break.
Version Support
This mod works with Minecraft 1.4.6 and 1.4.5. Download the version that matches your game.
What’s New in v2.0
- Updated for 1.4.6
- Fixed temperature display going negative on some engines
- Fixed crash with heat sinks
- Changed oil materializer to 336 ratio (about 3 UU-matter per oil bucket). Old config files will update.
