Raw Beef in Minecraft: How to Get It | 1Minecraft

Raw beef drops from cows and cooks into steak. Find out how to get it in survival, where it is in Creative, the item ID, and the give command.

Raw beef is what cows drop when you kill them. You can’t craft it at a crafting table and there’s no recipe for it. You just have to find a cow and kill it.

It restores 3 hunger points eaten raw. Cook it in a furnace or smoker and you get steak, which restores 8. Always cook it if you can.

How to Get Raw Beef in Survival Mode

Raw beef only comes from killing cows or mooshrooms. Here’s the process:

1. Find a Cow

Cows spawn in most Overworld biomes, especially plains, forests, and meadows. They’re one of the most common passive mobs and easy to find early game. If you’re having trouble, try a plains biome at daytime.

2. Attack and Kill the Cow

Hit the cow until it dies. Each cow drops 1 to 3 raw beef. If your sword has the Looting enchantment, that goes up to 6 raw beef per kill. It’s one of the better reasons to grab Looting early.

3. Pick Up the Raw Beef

Walk over the dropped items to collect them. You’ve got about 5 minutes before items despawn, so don’t wander off. Cows also drop leather, which is useful for early armor and books.

What to Do With Raw Beef

Mostly you’ll cook it. Throw it in a furnace, smoker, or on a campfire and it becomes steak. A smoker does it twice as fast as a regular furnace, which matters when you’re cooking a big haul after a cow farm session.

You can also use raw beef to breed cows. Hold it out near two adult cows and they’ll pair up and produce a calf. Useful for building up a cow farm if you don’t have one yet.
