Poison Status Effect Wiki Guide

This Minecraft tutorial explains the Poison effect with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

Background

The Poison effect is a status effect that does damage to your health every 1.25 seconds and turns the hearts in your health bar to a yellowish-green.

Poison Status Effect - Wiki Guide 1

The Poison effect itself won’t kill you because it will pause when your health is at 1 health point (or half heart Poison Status Effect - Wiki Guide 2

). However if you heal above 1 health point while you are poisoned, the damaging effect will resume.

There are levels of Poison such as Poison II, Poison III, Poison IV and so on. The higher the level of Poison, the faster the poison will damage you.

Icon and Particle Effects

When you have the Poison effect, the following icon will appear in the top right corner of your screen (in older versions of Minecraft, the effect icons only appears when you are viewing the inventory menu):

You will also see particle effects floating around you. In the latest version of Minecraft, these particle effects will be green.

When the Poison effect wears off, the icon and particle effects will disappear and the hearts in your health bar will return to their original red color. You will be back to your normal status.

Duration

Depending on how you get the effect, the duration of the Poison effect will be different. To see how much time is remaining for the effect, go to your inventory menu.

In this example, it says 3:15 under Poison so this means that there is 3 minutes and 15 seconds remaining of the Poison effect.
