How to Craft a Hopper in Minecraft

Hoppers are one of the most useful redstone items in Minecraft. They automatically move items from one container to another, which makes them essential for building farms, sorting systems, and automatic contraptions. If you’re building anything with hoppers, you’ll need to know how to craft them first.

Finding a Hopper in Creative Mode

If you’re in creative mode, you can grab a hopper directly from your inventory. Here’s where to find it:

Version Location
1.8 – 1.19 Redstone Tab
1.19.3+ Redstone Blocks Tab

Materials You Need

To craft a hopper in survival mode, you’ll need:

  • 1 Chest
  • 5 Iron Ingots

Crafting Recipe

Open your crafting table and arrange the items like this on the 3×3 grid:

  • Row 1: Iron Ingot, empty, Iron Ingot
  • Row 2: Iron Ingot, Chest, Iron Ingot
  • Row 3: Empty, Iron Ingot, Empty

The chest goes in the middle of the second row. The five iron ingots form a pattern around it. Once you’ve placed everything correctly, the hopper will appear in the result box. Grab it and you’re done.
