Familiar Fauna Mod

Familiar Fauna Mod 1.12.2 adds new animals, insects (including Deer, Butterflies, and Snails) and other creatures to enhance atmosphere and exploration.

The mod also has native support for Biomes O’ Plenty, meaning Familiar Fauna mobs will naturally spawn in the appropriate BOP biomes without any tinkering or additional mods required.

Screenshots:

Butterfly

  • Butterflies are ambient mobs that spawn in warm, lush biomes. They appear in a variety of colors, and fly around in the air.
  • Butterflies can be caught using Bug Nets and Bug Habitats. If you have an empty Bug Habitat in your inventory, the butterfly will automatically be placed in it when caught.
  • Additionally, butterflies named using Name Tags will retain their name even when caught and placed in a Bug Habitat. The name will stay if you release them as well.

Deer

  • Deer are passive mobs that generally spawn in temperate forest biomes, as well as some colder biomes. They randomly spawn as either a doe (Female) or buck (Male), and can sometimes appear naturally in their baby form.
  • Deer are also very skittish, and will run away from nearby players.
  • When killed, mature deer drop Venison, a meat that can be eaten raw, or cooked to restore additional hunger.
  • Additionally, cow spawns are removed from biomes that deer spawn in, so it doesn’t feel redundant, and deer have a greater chance of spawning.
