Echo Shard Wiki Guide
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft an echo shard with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, an echo shard is a new item that was introduced in the Wild Update. It can be used to craft a recovery compass. An echo shard is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.
Let’s explore how to add an echo shard to your inventory.

Here is where you can find an echo shard in the Creative Inventory menu:

Java Edition (PC/Mac) | 1.19.3 | Ingredients |
- Platform is the platform that applies.
- Version(s)Â is the Minecraft version numbers where the item can be found in the menu location listed (we have tested and confirmed this version number).

How to get an Echo Shard in Survival Mode
In Minecraft, you can add an echo shard to your inventory in Survival mode by finding an echo shard inside of a chest within the Ancient City. So, let’s get started!
1. Find an Ancient City
In Minecraft, an Ancient City is a structure that spawns naturally in the game. It can be found underground in the Deep Dark biome.
This is what an Ancient City looks like:
2. Find a Chest within the Ancient City
When you find an Ancient City, look for chests. Each chest will contain different items and not every chest will contain an echo shard, so you might have to look for more than one chest. But be careful, these chests will be guarded by sculk sensors and sculk shriekers.
3. Open the Chest
Next, open the chest. If you are lucky, you will find an echo shard and other valuable items. Inside of this chest, we have found 3 echo shards.
Make sure you add the echo shards to your inventory.
An echo shard is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later. It is especially useful for crafting a recovery compass.
