Dragon Head Wiki Guide

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a dragon head with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, a dragon head is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game. The dragon head can be found attached to the End Ship in the End City.

Let’s explore how to add a dragon head to your inventory.

Where to find a Dragon Head in Creative Mode

Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)

Here is where you can find a dragon head in the Creative Inventory menu:

Platform Version(s) Creative Menu Location
Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1.9 – 1.19
Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1.19.3 – 1.20
  • Platform is the platform that applies.
  • Version(s) is the Minecraft version numbers where the item can be found in the menu location listed (we have tested and confirmed this version number).
  • Creative Menu Location is the location of the item in the Creative Inventory menu.

How to get the Dragon Head in Survival Mode

You can add the dragon head to your inventory in Survival mode by finding one attached to the front of the End Ship in the End City. So let’s get started!

1. Go to the End City

The End City is found in the End dimension.

If you aren’t sure how to find the End City, try our tutorial that explains how.

2. Go to the front of the End Ship

Once you find the End City, look for the End Ship (looks like a floating boat). You will find the dragon head attached to the front of the boat.

TIP: If you don’t find an End Ship in your End City, don’t worry, just look for another End City. There is more than one End City in your Minecraft world.

3. Build a Platform under the Dragon Head

Next, you will need to build a platform under the dragon head.

In this example, we’ve placed end stone under the dragon head. You will want to place some type of block under the dragon head so that when you remove the dragon head, it doesn’t fall into the void.

4. Break the Dragon Head

The game control to break the dragon head depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the dragon head.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the dragon head.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the dragon head.
  • For Education Edition, left click and hold on the dragon head.

The dragon head will break and a smaller dragon head will float on the ground.

5. Pick up the Dragon Head

Make sure you pick up the dragon head before it disappears.

Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)

In Minecraft, a dragon head has the following Name, ID and DataValue:

Description

  • Data Value (or damage value) identifies the variation of the block if more than one type exists for the Minecraft ID.
