Compost Bin

A compost bin is is used for the creation of compost.

img-responsive

Compost bins are crafted with sticks and planks.

Many types of organic matter such as seeds, leaves, plants, flowers, and food can be piled into the compost bin’s 3×3 storage grid. This material will be slowly consumed and turned into compost.

Since the composting process creates heat, steam will occasionally rise out of an actively compost bin. The visible soil level will also reflect the amount of items and compost in the compost bin.

Compost is not crafted directly, but can be manufactured from organic material in a compost bin.

Compost can be used directly in the world. When applied to grass, crops, and some plants, compost acts as a weak substitute for bonemeal. Compared to bonemeal, it has a 50% chance of triggering a growth action.

  • Left column: the item id that can decompose.
    • The special minecraft:food entry will apply to all food (ItemFood instances) that aren’t matched by another entry.
    • Metadata specifiers are supported. For example, minecraft:dye@4 matches Lapis Lazuli.
    • Forge ore dictionary names are supported. For example, record matches all music record items.
  • Right column: The number of ticks the item takes to decompose in the compost bin. A value of -1 disables rot for that item.
