Birch Boat Wiki Guide

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a birch boat with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, a birch boat is one of the many transportation items that you can make. A birch boat allows you to quickly travel across water. There are different variations of a boat – oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, bamboo, and cherry.

How to craft a Birch Boat in Survival Mode

1. Open the Crafting Menu

First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid that looks like this:

2. Add Items to make a Birch Boat

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a birch boat, place 5 birch planks in the 3×3 crafting grid.

When making a birch boat, it is important that the birch planks are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. There should be 2 birch planks placed in the first row at either sides (the middle box should be left empty) and 3 birch planks placed in the second row. If you are making a birch boat for Minecraft PE, Windows 10, Xbox, PS, Wii U, Nintendo Switch and Education Edition, you need to add one additional item which is a wooden shovel that goes in the middle box in the first row. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a birch boat that moves in the water.
