Minecraft 1.13 Pre-Release 8 drops with a bunch of bug fixes and new blocks. This pre-release holds the record for the most pre-release versions in a single update, so yeah, lots of testing went into it.
What’s New in 1.13 Pre-Release 8
Dead Coral Fans
The main addition here is dead coral fan blocks. They give you more options for underwater builds and adding detail to ocean areas. Stick them anywhere you’d use regular coral.
Dripping Liquid Changes
The game changed which blocks show dripping liquids. This affects the visual behavior of water and lava in certain situations.
Text Components for Teams and Objectives
Team names and objective names switched from raw strings to text components. If you run a command-heavy server, this change matters. For regular players, it’s just a backend thing.
How to Install
Getting this pre-release running is straightforward.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher
- Click “Launch Options” at the top
- Toggle on snapshots (pre-releases and snapshots)
- Go back to the main tab, find 1.13 Pre-Release 8 in your version list, and hit play
One thing: pre-releases can mess up your worlds. Back up your saves before installing, or just run the pre-release in a separate folder. Better safe than sorry.
