How to Install Snapshots
Installing snapshots is straightforward. Open your Minecraft launcher and click “New Profile”. Give it a name like “snapshots” and check the box that says “Enable experimental development snapshots”. Save the profile.
Launch the game with your new snapshot profile selected. In the version menu, find and select “16w44a”. You can now play the snapshot.
To switch back to the main release, select your regular profile from the dropdown at the bottom left of the launcher.
Important: Back Up Your Worlds
Snapshots are experimental and can corrupt worlds. Always back up your worlds before playing snapshots. The safest approach is to run snapshots in a completely separate folder. This way, your main worlds stay safe while you test the latest changes.
Version Compatibility
Snapshot 16w44a is for Minecraft Java Edition 1.11. You’ll need Java Edition on PC to use this snapshot. Make sure your launcher is up to date before trying to download snapshots.
Most mods won’t work with snapshots since they’re not updated immediately. If you use mods, stick to the regular 1.11 release version. Check the mod’s page after each snapshot to see if it’s been updated.
