The Efficiency enchantment is one of the most useful tools you can get in Minecraft. It makes mining blocks way faster, which saves you tons of time when grinding resources.
What Does Efficiency Do?
Efficiency speeds up your mining speed. Put it on a pickaxe, shovel, axe, or hoe and you’ll dig blocks much faster than normal. The higher the level, the better the effect.
You can get this enchantment at five different levels, from I to V. Level 5 gives you the biggest speed boost.
Efficiency Levels
| Level | Speed Boost | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| I | Slight increase | Early game mining |
| II | Moderate increase | Stone and ore mining |
| III | Good increase | Regular resource farming |
| IV | Strong increase | Serious grinding |
| V | Maximum increase | Best possible mining speed |

How to Add Efficiency to Your Tools
Using an Enchanting Table
The easiest method. Place your tool in the enchanting table and add lapis lazuli. You’ll see random enchantment options. Keep trying until Efficiency appears. You can reroll as many times as you want.
Using an Anvil
If you already have an enchanted book with Efficiency, combine it with your tool on an anvil. This costs some experience levels but guarantees the enchantment transfers to your tool.
Using Commands
If cheats are on, use the /enchant command to instantly add Efficiency. This is the fastest way if you know what level you want.
