Minecraft 1.7.1 Pre-Release

The 1.7.1 Pre-Release is live and fixes some serious problems from the earlier 1.7 release. If you were having trouble launching on Linux, this update should solve it. The changelog has all the details.

How to Install

Using the Official Launcher

The easiest way to test this pre-release is through the official launcher. Open it and click the “New Profile” button. Name it something like “snapshots” and check the box for “Enable experimental development snapshots”. Save and you’re good to go.

To switch back to the regular version anytime, just select it from the dropdown at the bottom left of the launcher.

Manual Installation (Windows)

If you’re downloading the jar file directly, just right-click it and select “Open with” then choose Java. It’ll install and launch from there.

Version Compatibility

The downloads below include both the client and server versions. Make sure you grab the right one for what you need. The server jar is for running your own multiplayer server.
