Summoning Goats in Minecraft
Want a goat in your world right now? Use the /summon command. This works in any game mode as long as you have cheats enabled. It’s the fastest way to spawn a goat without finding mountains or waiting for them to spawn naturally.
What You Need
Cheats have to be on in your world. If you’re on a server or in a world without cheats enabled, you’ll need to turn them on first. Once they’re on, you can enter any command from the chat window.
The /summon Command
Java Edition (PC/Mac)
The basic syntax is simple:
/summon goat
This spawns a goat right where you’re standing.
If you want to spawn it at specific coordinates or customize it, use this format:
/summon goat [x y z] [nbt data]
x y z: The coordinates where the goat should appear. Leave this blank to spawn it at your current location.
nbt data: Optional. Use this to give the goat custom properties like a name or custom health.
Bedrock Edition (Mobile, Console, Windows 10/11)
The command is the same. You can use /summon goat in the chat window after enabling cheats.
Examples
Simple Summon
Spawn a goat right next to you:
/summon goat
Named Goat
Spawn a goat and name it Billy:
/summon goat ~ ~ ~ {CustomName:"\"Billy\""}
At Specific Coordinates
Spawn a goat at coordinates 100, 64, 200:
/summon goat 100 64 200
How to Use the Command

- Bedrock (Mobile): Tap the chat icon at the top
- Xbox One: Press D-Pad Right
- PS4: Press D-Pad Right
- Nintendo Switch: Press the right arrow button
- Windows 10/11: Press T
Step 2: Type and Send
Type your command. You’ll see it appear in the corner of your screen. Press Enter to execute it.
You’ll get a message saying “Summoned new Goat” in the chat. The goat appears in your world. You might need to look around to spot it.
Goat Behavior
Goats like to jump and climb. They’re skittish and will ram things, including you. They spawn in mountain biomes naturally if you want to find them without commands. If you spawn multiple goats, they’ll interact with each other.
