How do I unlock spells with MagicBooks Mod?

Find magic books in world chests and right-click them to earn skill points. Open your Magic Book GUI and spend points to unlock the spells you want to cast.

How does the mana system work?

Mine shard ore to get shards. Place shards in Greater Crystals to generate mana. Regular crystals automatically carry mana around. Stand on Mana Pads to charge yourself up so you can cast spells and use special pickaxe abilities.

Do I need Forge to install this mod?

Can I craft the magical pickaxes or do I find them?

You craft them using the ritual system. Arrange pedestals in specific patterns with crystals nearby. All recipes show in JEI with the exact mana costs needed.

What's the best way to set up a mana network?

Place a Greater Crystal and connect it with regular crystals in lines to spread mana around. Put Mana Pads in convenient spots so you can charge up mana anytime.

MagicBooks Mod 1.12.2 - Magic Books & Spells

MagicBooks adds elemental magic to Minecraft. Hunt for four rare books in world chests, grind skill points to unlock spells, and craft magical gear like wands and special pickaxes. Set up a crystal mana network, power up your character, and cast spells to fight mobs or help crops grow.

What You Get

Magic Books & Skill Points

Five different books give you skill points for each element. Right-click them to level up. The Magic Book GUI lets you spend points to unlock spells you want to use.

Spells

Each element has unique spells:

Air: Lightning strikes to smite blocks and mobs, invisibility spell
Earth: Grow spell speeds up crops, wall spell summons temporary barriers
Fire: Fireblast burns nearby mobs
Water: Bubble shield makes you invincible for a few seconds

Tools & Gear

Wands cast your unlocked spells (element must match the spell)
Air Pickaxe acts as a magnet when you’re charged with air mana, pulling items toward you
Earth Pickaxe mines in a large area when powered
Fire Pickaxe auto-smelts ore as you mine it
Water Pickaxe converts obsidian into water
Spell Bag gives you a big dedicated inventory for spells
Axes are good durability tools now, better abilities coming later
Crystal Linker connects crystals of matching elements

Mana System

Shards are your fuel. Mine shard ore to get them, place shards in Greater Crystals to generate mana. Regular crystals automatically connect to the nearest Greater Crystal and carry mana around your base. Stand on Mana Pads to charge yourself up so you can cast spells and activate pickaxe powers.

Blocks & Runes

Greater Crystals take shards as input and generate mana
Regular Crystals transport mana, auto-connect to Greater Crystals
Pedestals are used in crafting rituals to create items
Mana Pads let you absorb mana when you stand on them
Rune Of Drowning damages mobs and keeps them from moving
Rune Of Lumber cuts trees using earth mana, dump items into a chest next to it
Shard Blocks are crafting components and storage

Crafting Rituals

Pedestals arranged in specific patterns create special items. The air pedestal points east with 2 blocks between all pieces. JEI shows all recipes and how much mana each element needs to power the ritual.
