Minecraft 1.7.8 – Official Client & Server Download
Minecraft 1.7.8 is out now with some important fixes. This version squashes critical server crashes and resolves skin-related issues that were causing problems for players.
What’s Fixed in 1.7.8
This update focuses on stability. The main fixes are for server crashes that would happen under certain conditions, plus some skin loading issues that were causing crashes too. If you’re running a server, this is worth updating to.
Server Mode Matters
Important: When you start a 1.7.8 server for the first time, make sure you’re in the right mode. Your server can run in online mode (authenticates players through Mojang) or offline mode (no authentication). Player profiles don’t transfer between these modes, so pick one and stick with it when you first launch.
Download Options
1.7.8 comes in three flavors. Pick what you need:
- Client: The regular Minecraft launcher and game client
- Server JAR: Run a server on any OS with Java installed
- Server EXE: Windows-specific server executable
Installation
For the client, just run the launcher and select version 1.7.8 from the version list. For servers, download the appropriate file (JAR for Linux/Mac, EXE for Windows), and run it. The first launch creates your world and config files.
