Resource packs let you change how Minecraft looks without touching the game files. You can swap textures, tweak sounds, adjust the UI, change music, pretty much anything visual. They’re called texture packs in older versions, but resource pack is the current term. This guide shows you the easiest way to find, download, and install them.
Quick Installation Steps
- Find a resource pack on 1Minecraft
- Download the file to your computer
- Open your resourcepacks folder
- Drop the file in and activate it in-game
How to Download Resource Packs
Start by picking a resource pack. 1Minecraft has tons of options with preview images and feature lists so you can see what you’re getting before you download.
Head over to our resource pack collection and scroll through the latest packs. Each post shows screenshots and explains what the pack does. Once you find something you like, click the download button on that post.
Important: grab the version that matches your Minecraft version. A 1.20 pack might not work right on 1.19. The download link takes you to a page where you’ll see a big DOWNLOAD button. Click it and wait for the file to finish downloading.
How to Install Resource Packs
Method 1: Open the Folder Directly
This is the quickest way. Open your resource packs folder and drop the file in.
- Windows: Press
Windows + R, type%appdata%, hit Enter, then navigate to.minecraft/resourcepacks - Mac: Open Finder, press
Cmd + Shift + G, paste~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/resourcepacks, hit Enter - Linux: Open your file manager and go to
~/.minecraft/resourcepacks
Drag the resource pack file into this folder. That’s it.
Method 2: Use the In-Game Menu
If you want to do everything in Minecraft:
- Launch Minecraft and go to the main menu
- Click
Options...thenResource Packs... - Look for the button that says
Open Pack Folder(bottom left corner) - A folder window pops up. Drop your downloaded file there
- Close the folder, go back to Minecraft, and refresh the resource packs list
Activating Your Pack
After the file is in the resourcepacks folder:
- Open Minecraft
- Go to
Options...thenResource Packs... - You should see your pack in the list on the left (Available)
- Click it once to select it, then click the arrow button to move it to the right side (Selected)
- The pack is now active. Close the menu and jump in the game
Minecraft Version Compatibility
Resource packs are version-specific. A pack made for 1.20 might show missing textures or errors on 1.19. When you download, pick the version that matches what you’re playing. Most popular packs get updated for new Minecraft releases, so check if there’s a newer version available.
OptiFine and Resource Packs
OptiFine adds extra graphics features like better lighting, connected textures, and custom skies. Most resource packs work fine with OptiFine, and some are designed specifically to take advantage of OptiFine features. If you want the best visuals, install OptiFine first, then add your resource pack on top.
Troubleshooting
Pack isn’t showing up in Minecraft? Make sure the file is in the right folder and that your Minecraft version matches the pack version.
Black or pink blocks? That usually means missing textures. Try a different pack or update to the right version.
Game is slow? Some fancy packs need more power. Lower your other graphics settings to compensate, or try a lighter pack.
