How to Install Mods & Addons on Minecraft PE | 1Minecraft

Step-by-step guide to installing mods and addons on Minecraft PE. Works with .mcpack, .mcaddon, .zip files on Android, iOS, and more.

Want to install mods and addons on Minecraft PE? It’s easier than you think. We’ll walk you through both the fast way (.mcpack and .mcaddon files) and the manual way (.zip and .rar files). Whether you’re on Android, iOS, Windows, or console, this guide has you covered.

.mcpack and .mcaddon Files (Fastest Way)

If your mod comes as a .mcpack or .mcaddon file, you’re in luck. This is the quickest installation method.

Installation Steps

  1. Download the .mcpack or .mcaddon file to your device
  2. Open your Downloads folder
  3. Tap the mod file to open it
  4. Minecraft PE will automatically import it. You might see a black screen while it loads, just wait for it to finish
  5. Create a new world or edit an existing one
  6. Go to world settings and scroll down
  7. Enable the behavior packs and resource packs you just installed
  8. Start the world and enjoy

Not opening? If your phone can’t open the .mcpack file directly, use a file manager app like File Manager to find the file and tap it from there.

.zip and .rar Files (Manual Installation)

If your mod comes as a .zip or .rar file, you’ll need to manually move files to the right folders. It takes longer than .mcpack, but it’s still straightforward.

What You Need

  • Latest version of Minecraft PE installed
  • A file manager app (we recommend File Manager)
  • The .zip or .rar file with your mod

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Download the .zip or .rar file to your Downloads folder
  2. Open your file manager and extract the archive
  3. Look inside the extracted folder. Most mods have 2 folders: one for textures and one for behavior changes
  4. Open your file manager and navigate to /games/com.mojang/ (found in internal storage)
  5. You’ll see these folders inside com.mojang:
    • behavior_packs – where the mod itself goes
    • resource_packs – where textures and skins go
    • minecraftWorlds – where downloaded maps are stored
    • minecraftpe – don’t touch this folder
  6. Copy the texture folder from your extracted mod into the resource_packs folder
  7. Copy the behavior folder from your extracted mod into the behavior_packs folder
  8. Open Minecraft PE
  9. Create a new world or open an existing one in edit mode
  10. Go to world settings
  11. Under Resource Packs, find and enable your mod’s textures
  12. Under Behavior Packs, find and enable your mod
  13. Save and start playing

Understanding Folder Names

Different mod creators use different naming conventions. Here’s what to look for when you extract a .zip file:

  • Folders with “behavior”, “addon”, or “bp_” in the name go in behavior_packs
  • Folders with “texture”, “resource”, or “rp_” in the name go in resource_packs

Some mods only have behavior changes and no custom textures. Some only have textures. Both are normal, and both methods work fine.

Works Across All Bedrock Platforms

This installation method works the same way on every Bedrock Edition device:

  • Android phones and tablets
  • iPhone and iPad
  • Windows 10 and 11 PC
  • Xbox
  • PlayStation
  • Nintendo Switch

The folder structure is identical on all platforms. If you’re on console, you’ll transfer files differently, but once they’re in /games/com.mojang/, everything works the same.
