What is a Wither Rose?
A wither rose is a dark flower you can find in Minecraft. Unlike most flowers, you can’t craft it or find it growing naturally around the world. The only way to get one is to have a wither boss kill a mob. When the wither finishes off another creature, it drops the rose as loot.
Finding Wither Rose in Creative Mode
Java Edition
If you’re playing in Creative mode and want to grab a wither rose, here’s where to find it:
- Versions 1.14 to 1.19: Check the Decoration Blocks tab
- Versions 1.19.3 to 1.19.4: Look in the Natural Blocks tab
Just search for “wither rose” or scroll through the tab to find it, then grab it from the inventory menu.
Getting a Wither Rose in Survival Mode
This is where things get interesting. You need to actually spawn and deal with a wither boss. Here’s the process:
Step 1: Build a Wither Boss
First, you need to construct a wither. You’ll need three wither skeleton skulls and four soul sand blocks. Stack them in this pattern:
- Place three soul sand in a row
- Put the three skulls on top in a T shape
The wither will spawn immediately once you place the last skull. If you don’t want to hunt for skulls, you can use the /summon command to spawn one instantly (creative mode only).
Step 2: Let the Wither Kill Mobs
Once the wither spawns, it starts breaking things and attacking. Move away and let it do its thing. Every mob it kills will drop a wither rose. For example, if it kills a cow, a wither rose falls as loot.
Step 3: Collect the Rose
Pick up the wither rose before it despawns. These are useful items to keep around, especially if you’re making black dye or suspicious stew.
