The Windswept Gravelly Hills is one of Minecraft’s mountain biomes. You’ll find flat-topped mountains covered in gravel and stone, with water pools scattered around. Oak and spruce trees grow here, and it’s a decent place to find building materials.
What You’ll Find Here
Terrain and Weather
This biome is basically a rocky mountain range. The peaks are flatter than other mountain biomes and mostly gravel with grass blocks mixed in. You’ll get regular rain and snow depending on the altitude.
Trees
Oak and spruce trees spawn throughout the biome. They’re usually scattered across the slopes, so gathering wood is straightforward.
Vegetation
You’ll find dandelions, poppies, pumpkins, and regular grass. Nothing rare here, but it’s there if you need it.
Blocks
The main blocks are gravel, grass blocks, stone, diorite, and granite. Dig deeper and you’ll hit the standard ores like coal, iron, gold, diamond, redstone, and copper. This biome is good for mining since you spawn on the surface near stone.
Mobs
Passive mobs include cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, and llamas. At night, you get the usual hostile mobs: creepers, endermen, skeletons, spiders, witches, and zombies.
Biome IDs
Java Edition
The biome ID changed in version 1.18. Use the right one for your version:
- minecraft:gravelly_mountains (versions 1.16 to 1.17.1)
- minecraft:windswept_gravelly_hills (versions 1.18 and later)
Use the /locatebiome command with your biome ID to find this biome quickly.
