How do I use the Lightning Arrow after crafting it?

Hold the Lightning Arrow in your off-hand slot (not your main hand) and fire your bow normally. The arrow will mark where it lands and a lightning bolt will strike that spot after a short delay.

Why isn't the lightning arrow doing anything when I shoot it?

Make sure it's in your off-hand, not your main hand. If the data pack isn't loaded at all, run /datapack list in chat to check it's enabled, or try /reload.

Does the lightning hit only the target or does it splash nearby mobs too?

Vanilla lightning in Minecraft does have a small area of effect, so nearby mobs can take damage. It's not a huge radius, but it can hit multiple things if they're close together.

Do I need Forge, Fabric, or any mod loader for this?

No. Data packs run in vanilla Minecraft. Just drop the .zip into your world's datapacks folder and reload.

Does this work on a multiplayer server?

Yes. Install it server-side by placing the .zip in the datapacks folder of your server's world directory and running /reload. All players on the server can then use it.

Lightning Arrows Data Pack (1.19.3, 1.18.2)

Lightning Arrows adds one new arrow type that calls down a real lightning strike. Shoot it, it marks a spot, and after a short delay a bolt comes down. The strike deals damage and sets the target on fire, so the total damage output is pretty solid for a ranged setup.

Lightning Arrow

Hold the Lightning Arrow in your off-hand and fire with any bow. When the arrow lands, it flags that location. A lightning bolt follows shortly after. Because of the delay, you’ll want to lead moving targets a little, but it’s not hard to get the hang of.

Lightning in vanilla Minecraft hits hard and ignites whatever it touches, so even if you miss by a bit, the fire can do extra work.

Crafting Recipe (Drop Crafting)

This pack uses drop-crafting instead of a crafting table. Toss all of these items on the ground in the same spot:

16 Arrows
16 Yellow Dye
16 Redstone Dust
1 Diamond

The items will combine automatically and drop the Lightning Arrows.

How to Install

This is a data pack, not a mod. No Forge or Fabric needed.

Download the .zip file for your Minecraft version below.
Open Minecraft and load the world you want to use it in (or create a new one).
Go to that world’s folder and open the datapacks folder inside it.
Drop the downloaded .zip file in. Do not extract it.
Either rejoin the world or run /reload if you’re already in it.
