Snowy Slopes Biome Guide
The Snowy Slopes biome is a frozen mountain biome in Minecraft. It’s full of tall snowy peaks, powder snow, and goats. This guide covers everything you’ll find there and how to locate it.
What is the Snowy Slopes Biome?
Snowy Slopes was added in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part II. It’s basically a mountain biome covered in snow and powder snow, with steep terrain and lots of vertical space. If you like high altitudes and cold weather, you’ll want to check this one out.
Weather
It snows here constantly. Not rain, actual snow. The precipitation is fairly steady, so you’ll always see snowflakes falling.
Terrain & Blocks
The Snowy Slopes biome is made up of several block types:
- Snow Blocks – Standard snow blocks that form the surface
- Snow Layers – Thin layers of snow on top of blocks
- Powder Snow – The dangerous stuff. Sinks you in and gives you the freezing effect unless you wear leather armor
- Stone – Underground and in the mountains
Dig deep enough and you’ll hit regular ore blocks like coal, iron, gold, diamond, redstone, and copper, just like everywhere else in the Overworld.
A Note About Powder Snow
Don’t fall into powder snow without protection. You’ll sink in and start taking freeze damage pretty fast. Wearing leather armor (even just leather boots) will save you. If you need to collect it, use a bucket.
Plants & Trees
There are basically no trees or vegetation in the Snowy Slopes biome. It’s completely barren, which makes sense for a frozen mountain.
Animals & Mobs
You’ll find goats and rabbits in this biome, hanging out on the mountains and frozen lakes.
At night, the standard Overworld hostiles spawn here too: creepers, endermen, skeletons, spiders, witches, and zombies.
Biome ID
If you want to use commands to find or summon this biome, the ID is:
minecraft:snowy_slopes
This works in Java Edition 1.18 and later. Use it with the /locatebiome command to find one.
