How to Install Flan’s Mod Content Packs

Flan's Mod needs content pack zips to add anything to the game. Here's exactly where to put them, step by step, and how to avoid the most common mistakes.

Flan’s Mod is just a shell on its own. Without content packs, you won’t see any planes, tanks, guns, or vehicles in your game. The packs are zip files that go into a specific folder inside your Minecraft directory, and getting that one detail wrong is why most people end up with nothing loading.

What You Need Before You Start

  • Minecraft Java Edition on a supported version (1.7.10, 1.8.9, or 1.12.2 — see below)
  • Minecraft Forge installed for that version — see the Forge guide if you need help
  • The Flan’s Mod core .jar file placed in your mods folder
  • One or more Flan’s Mod content pack .zip files that match your mod version

Version matching matters a lot here. A content pack made for Flan’s Mod on 1.7.10 will not work with 1.12.2. Check the pack’s download page for which version it targets before you grab it.

How to Install Flan’s Mod Content Packs

  1. Install Forge. Flan’s Mod is a Forge-only mod. If you have not set that up yet, the Forge mod installation guide covers the full process. Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge will not work here.
  2. Put the Flan’s Mod .jar in your mods folder. Open your Minecraft directory and drop the core mod file into the mods folder. On Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods. On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods. On Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods.
  3. Launch Minecraft once with the Forge profile selected. You only need to get to the title screen. This lets Flan’s Mod create its folder automatically. Once you see the title screen, close the game.
  4. Open your Minecraft directory and find the Flan folder. It should be sitting alongside your mods and config folders. On Windows, paste %appdata%\.minecraft into File Explorer’s address bar to get there fast. If the Flan folder is not there, create it yourself and name it exactly Flan with a capital F.
  5. Copy your content pack .zip files into the Flan folder. Move or copy the zips directly in. Do not put them inside any subfolders and do not extract them. The files must stay as .zip files.
  6. Launch Minecraft again with the Forge profile. Load into a world and the content from your packs should now be in the game. In most packs, new items and vehicles appear in the creative inventory or can be crafted in survival.

Common Mistakes and Troubleshooting

Unzipping the content packs

This is the single most common problem. The .zip files stay zipped. Flan’s Mod reads them as archives — if you extract the contents into a folder, the mod ignores them entirely. If you see a folder where a zip should be, that is the issue.

Dropping the zips in the wrong folder

The mods folder and the Flan folder are separate. The core Flan’s Mod .jar goes in mods. The content pack zips go in Flan. Putting content packs in mods does nothing.

Version mismatch between the content pack and the mod

A content pack made for an older version of Flan’s Mod can cause crashes or missing content when used with a newer one. Always check what version a pack was made for and make sure your Flan’s Mod .jar matches. The mod version is usually in the filename.

The Flan folder was not created automatically

If you never launched Minecraft with the mod installed, the folder will not exist yet. Just create it manually inside your .minecraft directory. Name it Flan, capital F, no spaces.

Items or vehicles are missing textures or not showing up

Re-download the content pack and make sure you got it from a source that actually hosts Flan’s Mod packs. Corrupted or incomplete zips will load with errors or not at all. Check the Forge loading screen or your crash log for any error messages that name the specific pack causing the problem.

Which Versions and Editions This Applies To

Flan’s Mod is Java Edition only. It does not exist for Bedrock Edition or Education Edition, and there is no version of it for Fabric, Quilt, or NeoForge.

The versions that see the most active use:

  • 1.7.10 — by far the most content packs exist for this version
  • 1.8 and 1.8.9 — decent support, fewer packs than 1.7.10
  • 1.12.2 — some community-maintained builds exist for this version

There is no officially maintained version of Flan’s Mod for 1.16 or newer. If you are on a modern version, you would need to look for community forks, which may have different folder structures than what this guide describes.
