About Custom NPCs Mod
Custom NPCs Mod adds a ton of tools to create, customize, and manage your own NPCs in Minecraft. Want to build a village with actual dialogue? Set up quest chains? Create faction-based gameplay? This mod has you covered. It works great for singleplayer but also supports multiplayer worlds.
The mod gives you specialized tools to spawn NPCs, clone them, control mobs, and set up interactive systems. You get weapons, staffs, shields, and building blocks too. Most of the extra items are purely cosmetic, but the weapons deal solid damage.
Main Features
NPC Wand
- Right click the ground to spawn a new NPC
- Right click an NPC to open the editor and customize it
- Right click in the air to freeze all nearby NPCs or list them
NPC Cloner
- Right click an NPC while holding the cloner to save it to a slot
- Right click the ground to bring up your saved NPCs
- Click a slot to spawn an exact copy of that NPC
Mob Spawner
- Easily spawn any mob, including modded ones
- Create mob spawner blocks without needing to find them naturally
Redstone Block
- Turns on when you enter its range, turns off when you leave
- Can be configured to activate only if you’ve completed specific quests or read certain dialogues
- Right click with the NPC Wand to adjust settings
Waypoint Block
- Used for location-based quests
- Place one down, name it, then reference that name in your quest setup
Carpentry Bench
- Used to craft custom recipes through the mod’s global recipe system
Weapons & Tools
Melee Weapons
Dagger, Spear, Battle Axe, Mace, Glaive, Scythe, and Trident all work like swords. They’re enchantable and deal comparable damage to vanilla weapons. Bronze does iron-level damage but breaks faster. Emerald does more damage than diamond but with less durability.
Guns & Bullets
Hold right click to aim, release when you hear a click to fire. Each gun type has different effective range. You can mix and match ammo types – for example, a stone gun can fire stone, wood, or black bullets. Base damage is 2.5 hearts, with added damage from the gun and bullet materials combined.
Machine Gun
Rapid-fire weapon that shoots 8 black bullets when you hold right click. You need to hold right click again to reload after the 8 shots. Each bullet does 2 hearts of damage.
Staffs & Mana
Different staffs have different charge times. Hold right click to charge up a magical projectile, release to fire. Base projectile damage is 3 hearts plus some random damage plus material bonuses.
Shields
Normal and round shields are identical. Heater, Tower, Crescent, and Scutum shields are all iron-tier. Hold right click while holding a shield to absorb all incoming damage.
Getting Started
Prerequisites
You’ll need Minecraft Forge installed for your version. If you’re not sure how to set it up, follow our guides below.
Installation Steps
- Download Forge for your Minecraft version
- Download the Custom NPCs mod file
- Place the mod file in your .minecraft/mods folder
- Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile

Crafting Recipes
Install Just Enough Items (Forge) or Roughly Enough Items (Fabric) to see all the recipes in-game. You can also create and remove recipes through the global settings menu.
Version Support
Custom NPCs Mod has been around for a while and supports many Minecraft versions from 1.4.7 all the way up to 1.16.5. Choose the version that matches your Minecraft installation.
