Zan’s Minimap puts a small map in the top-right corner of your screen that shows the terrain around you as you move. It has mob radar, a death marker so you can find your stuff after dying, and waypoint beacons you can place anywhere in the world. One of the original minimap mods for Minecraft, and still the one to grab for older versions.
Features
Real-Time Minimap
The map updates as you walk and shows terrain, water, and elevation around you. You get a solid chunk of area at a glance without cluttering your screen. Navigation is a lot less painful once you have it.
Mob Radar Mode
Mob icons appear on the minimap so you can spot enemies before they reach you. Icons are slightly transparent when the mob is above your level and darkened when it’s below. Added in version 1.4.2, and it’s actually useful in caves where everything is multi-level.
Death Marker
Your last death location gets marked on the map automatically. Added in version 1.3.2i. This alone is worth installing for survival worlds where you die somewhere unfamiliar and need to get your items back.
Waypoint Beacons
Set custom waypoints and they show up as beacons both in the world and on the map. Good for your base, a village, a nether portal, or anything else you want to find again without guessing coordinates.
