How do I find the resource location for a modded mob?

Press F3+H in game to enable advanced tooltips. Then go into creative mode and hover over the mob's spawn egg. The resource location, formatted as modid:unlocalizedname, will appear in the tooltip. Copy that into your config file.

Can I protect all mobs from a mod at once instead of listing them one by one?

Yes. In the config file you can enter just the modid without a mob name, and every mob from that mod will be protected. The config includes an example of this. It's the easiest way to handle mods with lots of undead or nocturnal creatures.

Does this work on vanilla mobs like zombies and skeletons too?

Yes, it works on any mob including vanilla ones. Just add their resource location to the config. Vanilla zombie is minecraft:zombie, skeleton is minecraft:skeleton, and so on.

Do mobs get protected automatically after installing the mod?

No. The mod does nothing until you configure it. After first launch it generates a config file, and you need to add the mobs you want to protect in there. Without any entries in the config, nothing changes.

Which mod loader does the 1.20.2 version use?

The 1.20.2 version uses NeoForge instead of regular Forge, since Forge support shifted to NeoForge starting around 1.20.2. Fabric is also available for 1.20.2 if you prefer that.

Mob Sunscreen stops mobs from catching fire in daylight. If you’re running a modpack with custom undead or nocturnal creatures that keep burning at sunrise, this is the fix. You tell it which mobs to protect, and they stop turning into torches.

What It Does

By default, Minecraft burns undead mobs in sunlight. That’s fine for vanilla, but modded mobs don’t always behave consistently. This mod gives you a config file where you list exactly which mobs should be immune to sun damage. It works with any mob from any mod installed on your game.

Configuring Which Mobs Are Protected

Protection is set up using a mob’s resource location, which looks like modid:unlocalizedname. To find it, press F3+H in game to turn on advanced tooltips, then open creative mode and hover over a spawn egg. The resource location shows up in the tooltip.

In the config file you can either list specific mobs by full resource location, or protect every mob from a given mod at once by using just the modid. The config includes examples of both. Setup is a bit fiddly on first run, but once you know the pattern it’s quick.

How to Install

Download and install Minecraft Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge for your Minecraft version.
