Spruce Log Guide – Find & Use in Minecraft

Learn how to find spruce logs in Minecraft taiga biomes and use them in crafting. Complete guide for Java, Bedrock, and all versions.

What is a Spruce Log?

A spruce log is a wood block you get by chopping down spruce trees in Minecraft. You can’t craft it, so you need to find trees in the world and harvest them. Spruce logs are super useful. You can turn them into planks, charcoal, or use them for building.

Where to Find Spruce Trees

Spruce trees only grow in specific biomes. Look for them in:

  • Taiga – The most common place. Snowy, forested area with lots of spruces.
  • Old Growth Pine Taiga – Taller trees, bigger logs to harvest.
  • Windswept Forest – Less common but trees spawn here too.

Once you find a spruce tree, you’re ready to chop it down.

How to Harvest Spruce Logs

Step 1: Get an Axe (Optional but Faster)

You can chop with your hand, but an axe is way faster. Any axe works:

  • Wooden Axe (fastest to make)
  • Stone Axe
  • Iron Axe
  • Diamond Axe (fast)
  • Netherite Axe (fastest)

Step 2: Break the Wood

Hold your axe and break the tree trunk blocks. How you do this depends on your platform:

  • Java Edition (PC) – Left click and hold
  • Bedrock/Windows 10 – Left click and hold
  • Pocket Edition – Tap and hold
  • Xbox – Hold RT button
  • PlayStation – Hold R2 button
  • Nintendo Switch – Hold ZR button

Keep breaking blocks until the whole tree is down, then collect all the logs.

What to Make With Spruce Logs

Spruce logs are the starting point for a lot of crafting recipes:

  • Spruce Planks – Turn logs into planks in your inventory
  • Spruce Wood – Combine logs with planks
  • Charcoal – Cook logs in a furnace to make fuel
  • Smoker – Build a smoker with logs and furnace
  • Campfire – Make a cozy fire for roasting meat
  • Building blocks – Logs look great in rustic builds

In Creative mode, you can grab spruce logs directly from the inventory menu:
