How to Make a Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft
The Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance gives you 45 seconds of protection from fire and lava damage. When you throw it, it creates a cloud on the ground that grants the effect to anyone who walks through it. This is super useful for exploring the Nether or fighting in fire-heavy areas.
What Does Fire Resistance Do?
Fire Resistance makes you immune to fire, lava, and magma blocks. You won’t take damage from standing in lava or fire. The lingering version lets you throw a potion that creates a cloud effect lasting about 30 seconds, giving 45 seconds of fire resistance to anyone who runs through it.

Crafting the Lingering Potion
What You Need
To make one Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance, you’ll need:
- 1 Splash Potion of Fire Resistance (3:00 or 2:15 duration)
- 1 Dragon’s Breath
The Dragon’s Breath is the key ingredient for converting any splash potion into a lingering potion. You get Dragon’s Breath from the ender dragon’s breath attack in the End.
Brewing Steps
Step 1: Set Up Your Brewing Stand
Open your brewing stand. You’ll see three potion slots at the bottom and one ingredient slot at the top. This is where the magic happens.
Step 2: Add Fuel
Put blaze powder in the fuel slot on the left side. This powers the brewing stand. One blaze powder can fuel one brew.
Step 3: Add Your Base Potion
Place your Splash Potion of Fire Resistance in one of the three bottom slots. You can brew up to three potions at once if you have three splash potions.
Step 4: Add Dragon’s Breath
Put the Dragon’s Breath in the ingredient slot at the top. The brewing stand will start bubbling and you’ll hear a “glug glug glug” sound.
Step 5: Wait for Brewing to Complete
After a few seconds, the Dragon’s Breath disappears and you’ll have your Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance. Move it to your inventory and you’re done.
Hover over the potion in the brewing stand to confirm it shows “Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance” and lists the 45-second duration.
