Lapis Lazuli Block Crafting Guide

Lapis lazuli blocks are a solid way to store lapis ore in compact form and make some seriously nice looking blue structures. This guide covers everything you need to know about crafting them in survival mode, finding them in creative, and the commands to spawn them.

Finding Lapis Lazuli Blocks in Creative Mode

Java Edition (PC/Mac)

In creative mode, you’ll find lapis lazuli blocks in the building blocks tab. Versions 1.8 through 1.19.4 all have them in the same spot, so grab them whenever you need to test builds or prototype designs.

What You Need to Craft a Lapis Lazuli Block

To make a lapis lazuli block, you need 9 lapis lazuli. That’s it. No other materials required. Just gather your lapis from mining or convert raw lapis ore into lapis gems using a furnace if needed.

How to Craft a Lapis Lazuli Block

Step 1: Open Your Crafting Table

Place down a crafting table and interact with it to open the crafting grid. You’ll see the 3×3 crafting area where the magic happens.

Step 2: Arrange Your Lapis

Place 9 lapis lazuli in the grid so they fill all 9 slots. That means 3 lapis in the top row, 3 in the middle row, and 3 in the bottom row. Fill every space. Once you’ve placed them correctly, the lapis lazuli block will appear in the output slot on the right.

Step 3: Move It to Your Inventory

Click the lapis lazuli block and drag it to your inventory. Done. You now have a crafted lapis lazuli block ready to use.

What to Build With Lapis Lazuli Blocks

Lapis blocks are great for decorative builds. The deep blue color works well for water features, wizard towers, cozy cottages, and modern architecture. They look especially good paired with deepslate or other dark blocks. Mix them with lighter blocks for contrast, or go all-in with a monochrome blue build.
