What is Spelunkery Mod?
Spelunkery is a mining overhaul that makes caving way more interesting. It adds tons of new ores, gemstone variants, mushrooms, and underground landmarks. If you think vanilla caves feel empty, this mod fills them with stuff worth finding.
The mod reworks tool progression around the new materials, adds useful gear specifically for exploration, and spreads new biome-specific ore veins around the world. Your mining trips actually feel rewarding now.
Key Features
New Fungi and Plants
Conk Fungus grows on logs and cave walls. You can use it like wood planks in most recipes, so you’re not stuck without trees underground.
Inkcap Mushrooms spawn on cave floors everywhere. Pale Inkcaps appear below Y=0. They spread slowly and can be bonemealed into huge variants. Craft them for black and white dye.
Phosphor Fungi grows on walls and ground in deep caves. Use these to craft glowsticks as an alternative to bottled glow ink.
Portabellas, Criminis, and Button Mushrooms start small and grow bigger. All stages are edible with different effects. Portabellas can be cooked. They appear in patches just below the surface and in Dark Forests.
Milly Bubcaps are rare but can spawn anywhere underground. Stack up to 8 in a single block like candles.
Tangle Roots are climbable vines under dirt overhangs near the surface. You can use them to craft rope ladders.
Sporophytes replace grass generation in moss patches with a lusher, greener look.
Gemstones and Ore Rework
Diamond, Emerald, Lapis, and Redstone ores now drop “Rough” versions instead of refined gems. Polish them on a grindstone to get the real thing.
Some gems give bonus drops when ground. Lazurite gives 0-2 gold nuggets. Cinnabar drops 1-3 redstone dust.
Massive Ore Veins
Lapis Veins spawn in deserts as large clusters of Sandstone Lapis Ore, Gold Ore, and Rough Lazurite blocks.
Emerald Veins appear in mountains with Andesite Emerald Ore and Rough Emerald blocks mixed together.
Cinnabar Veins generate at the world bottom everywhere, spread out like machine wiring. They contain Calcite Redstone Ore and Rough Cinnabar blocks.
Coal Veins form flat sheets in swamps with coal ore, coal blocks, and Smooth Basalt Diamond Ore.
Gold Veins appear throughout the Nether as random clusters of Nether Gold Ore and Raw Gold blocks.
Rock Salt
A new underground mineral that generates in stripes at high elevation in mountains. Craft it into polished blocks, bricks, slabs, and stairs.
You can also make Salt Lamps, which are toggleable light sources that work on the ground or hanging from ceilings.
Grind salt crystals into Salt Powder. Place it like redstone to create salt circles that block undead mobs from crossing.
