Lukewarm Ocean Biome Guide

Explore the Lukewarm Ocean biome in Minecraft. Find tropical fish, dolphins, and underwater resources. Biome ID and seed locations included.

What is the Lukewarm Ocean Biome?

The Lukewarm Ocean is one of Minecraft’s water biomes, found in the Overworld. It’s basically a tropical underwater paradise filled with life. Unlike the deeper ocean variants, this biome stays relatively shallow and warm, making it a great spot for exploring if you’ve got a Water Breathing potion handy.

Where to Find Lukewarm Ocean

This biome generates naturally throughout the Overworld at specific coordinates. You can use the /locatebiome minecraft:lukewarm_ocean command to find the nearest one, or use a seed that spawns you close by. It’s typically found in tropical regions between other warm biomes.

What’s in the Lukewarm Ocean

Underwater Life

The Lukewarm Ocean is packed with aquatic mobs. You’ll find tropical fish in tons of different colors and patterns, dolphins swimming around, regular cod, and squids. The variety of tropical fish makes this biome visually interesting compared to deeper ocean biomes.

Plants and Vegetation

The seafloor is covered with seagrass and kelp. Both are useful for building, and kelp in particular grows straight up, making it handy for creating columns or harvesting for bonemeal.

Blocks and Resources

Like all ocean biomes, you’ll find sand on the floor. Dig deep enough and you’ll hit the standard ores like coal, iron, gold, diamonds, redstone, and copper that generate throughout the Overworld. Stone, dirt, and other basic blocks appear as you go deeper.

Weather and Conditions

Since you’re underwater, weather doesn’t really affect you in this biome. It’s always dark down there unless you bring light sources. The water stays flowing, so plan ahead if you’re building underwater.

Tips for Exploring

Bring a Water Breathing potion or enchant your helmet with Respiration. You’ll need it for extended exploration. Dolphins are your friends here, they’re neutral and can help you find ocean ruins and shipwrecks. Keep an eye out for coral reefs nearby, which often generate adjacent to these oceans.

Biome ID and Commands

To use commands or locate this biome:

  • Biome ID: minecraft:lukewarm_ocean
  • Available in: Minecraft 1.16 through 1.19.2 and later

The biome ID is what you use in commands like /locatebiome or when using NBT editors. It only works in the Overworld dimension.

Finding Lukewarm Ocean Seeds

If you want to spawn right in or near a Lukewarm Ocean, you can use specific seeds. Check seed databases or community sites for current options that feature this biome near spawn. Different seeds will put you at different coordinates, so it depends what else you want nearby.

Related Biomes

The Lukewarm Ocean sits between other ocean biomes in temperature and depth. You might also encounter Deep Lukewarm Ocean, which is darker and deeper. Warm Ocean is shallower and even more tropical. Cold, Deep Cold, and Frozen variants offer a different experience.
