Snapshot 14w20a is a solid update that fixes a bunch of bugs and polishes some rough edges. If you’re testing features for the next full release, this one’s worth running.

What Changed

Here’s what’s new in this snapshot:

  • Caves now generate in deserts and mesas (finally)
  • New /title command for adventure maps and custom chapters
  • Tab list improvements when using health display objectives
  • Spectator mode fly speed can now be adjusted vertically
  • Stuck outside the world border? You can walk back inside now
  • Lots of bug fixes
  • Removed the 4th dimension from blocks (we’re sorry, kind of)

Bug Fixes

This snapshot crushes a ton of bugs:

  • Mobs treating layered snow as solid
  • Scoreboard players not appearing in sidebar after setting score to zero
  • Game crashing when interacting with invalid villagers
  • Surface dungeons spawning without floors, chests, or spawners
  • Leaves, redstone blocks, TNT, and glowstone causing suffocation damage
  • Withers destroying barrier blocks
  • Mob dungeons with broken floors and overwritten spawners
  • Slime spawning issues
  • Leads not showing knots on fence posts and can’t be right clicked
  • Chests not openable when item frames are too close
  • Cats and dogs teleporting into leaves and suffocating
  • Scoreboard operations clearing unrelated sidebar objectives
  • Command block character limit broken (16000 instead of 32000)
  • Knockback distance depending on login order
  • Being stuck outside the border making you unable to move
  • World creation sliders failing with IllegalArgumentException
  • Footstep and explosion particles not appearing
  • Scoreboard operations working inconsistently on players not yet on scoreboards
