Roboticraft Mod 1.12.2 Overview
Roboticraft adds programmable robot avatars to Minecraft 1.12.2. These aren’t just dumb automation, you write actual Python code to control them. The mod includes a built-in IDE so you can code right in the game without jumping to another window.
Set up your robot with expansion chips to unlock different abilities. Give it a task in Python, and watch it go. You can make mining robots, combat bots, builders, or whatever you dream up. The possibilities are pretty wild once you start experimenting.
Robot Abilities and Chips
Robots start pretty basic. To teach them skills, you need expansion chips. Pop them in the robot’s inventory and suddenly it knows what to do.
Attack Chip
Lets your robot swing a sword at entities. You pass it an entity ID and it goes to work. Pair it with the Detection Chip to make a proper combat bot.
Build Chip
Your robot pulls blocks from inventory and places them. Useful for construction projects or terraforming. You can specify which block type to use or just let it go in order.
Climb Chip
Enables climbing on ladders and vines. The newer versions actually let robots climb 1-block steps without this, but the chip still works if you want it.
Detection Chip
Detects nearby entities and returns a list. Can be enchanted with the Power enchantment to boost range by 10 blocks per level. Great for sentry bots or attack chains.
Inspection Chip
Your robot can check what block is at a location. Perfect for mining automation and pathfinding logic.
Interaction Chip
Interact with redstone contraptions. Buttons, levers, doors, trapdoors. All within code control.
Jump Chip
Lets your robot jump 1-block gaps. Be careful though, it’ll blindly jump in whatever direction it’s facing. A gap too wide means a dead robot.
Mining Chip
What robot doesn’t mine? Blocks go to inventory if there’s space, otherwise they drop on the ground. Essential for any automation build.
Essential Items and Components
Robot
The main unit. You craft it and activate it with a remote. Doesn’t spawn naturally.
Remote
Your connection to the robot. Activates it and opens the programming screen. Can’t do anything without it.
SD Card
Saves your programs to the card. The code syncs to your computer. You can swap cards between robots or hand them to other players to share programs.
SIM Card
Want to control robots in other dimensions or really far away? A SIM card extends your range beyond the normal 64-block limit.
Redstone Meter
Attach this and your robot responds to redstone signals. Executes whatever code is on the SD card. Perfect for automated systems.
RAM
Robots have limited memory by default. Add more RAM to handle longer or more complex scripts.
Wrench
The only way to remove a robot you own. You’re basically immune to damage so this is your only option.
Robot API Manual
In-game reference for the API. Craft one when you need a reminder of how things work.
Magnet Block
Warps robots to this location facing your specified direction. Useful for positioning robots at the start.
How to Use Roboticraft
Create a robot and activate it with the remote. Give it a name or let it pick a random one. You’ll see its inventory with slots for tools and chips, plus info on the right showing what it can actually do.
The core feature is the programming IDE built into the mod. It has code highlighting and some basic suggestions. Drag it around for a better view. Mouse off the interface and it goes semi-transparent so you don’t block your vision.
Add chips to unlock abilities, write Python code, save to an SD card, and let it run. Once you have multiple robots active, remember their names so you can switch between them with the remote.
The API is based on the Raspberry Pi Minecraft API but heavily modified to prevent game-breaking exploits. It’s also more flexible for addons compared to the Raspberry Jam Mod it was inspired by.
