Configurable KeepInventory Mod (1.20.1, 1.19.2)

Control which inventory slots you keep on death. Configurable KeepInventory Mod for Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.19.2, 1.18.2. Forge/NeoForge support.

The Configurable KeepInventory Mod puts you in control of what happens to your items when you die. Instead of using the standard gamerule that’s all-or-nothing, this mod lets you decide exactly which inventory slots get saved. You could keep your hotbar but lose your backpack, or save your armor and tools while dropping everything else. It’s all up to you.

What This Mod Does

By default, the mod keeps your score, experience, hotbar slots, off-hand item, and full armor set. That covers most of what matters. But you’re not locked into that. Edit the config file (keepinventory-common.toml in your .minecraft/config folder) to customize exactly which slots you want to keep on death.

Key Features

  • Save specific inventory slots on death instead of all-or-nothing
  • Keep hotbar, off-hand, armor, and experience points by default
  • Optional potion effect preservation
  • Toggle hunger and saturation preservation if you want
  • Prevent respawning with an empty hunger bar when that’s enabled
  • Config file is easy to edit, no coding required
  • Respects vanilla KeepInventory gamerule (if it’s on, the mod’s settings don’t apply)

Configuring the Mod

Once installed, the config file (keepinventory-common.toml) appears in your .minecraft/config folder. You can edit it with any text editor. The default settings keep the important stuff, but if you want to customize which slots are preserved, you can find slot IDs online and add them yourself.

The mod respects the vanilla KeepInventory gamerule. If you have it enabled, this mod’s settings take a backseat and everything is kept (the normal behavior).
